Winged Things.....

My post today is for the Crafty Secrets Challenge on Splitcoast to create something using something with wings. I chose a CS Creative Scraps image of this sweet bird with a nest and blue eggs - these kind of images just melt my heart. The pattern papers are also from Crafty Secrets except for the music - that's from my personal stash of ephemera. The doily paper is by Basic Grey and the paper matting the image is from Prima - the Raspberry Tea Collection from Emma's Paperie.

I hand dyed and scrunched the vintage seam binding and added a large pearl from one of the many brands available at Michael's, distressed all the edges with brown ink, and did some zig zag stitching.

I hope you enjoy.

Kahlua Beans....

Yum! These are my favorite summer beans. My recipe card is for the Craft Secrets Challenge on Splitcoast HERE

Yes, I do know how to spell Kahlua - but after all that work I was not going back!
I like the way it turned out as I really wanted to make something that I could repeat multiple times for an actual recipe book and of course there has to be a little bling. Papers are from CS Earthy pack, stamp is from CS "French Mail", the gem is by Recollections from Michael's and I colored it with a Sharpie marker to get the right color. The corner punch is by EK Success and is also from Michael's. The lined paper was created with Word in brown, and the edges ink distressed with brown.

Thanks for stopping by.

Down by the sea...

I love the ocean don't you? I love the smells, the sound of the waves rolling onto the shore, the seagulls silent flight overhead (and sometimes not so silent), building sandcastles, little boys and girls with their sand pails and shovels. This image reminds me of my daughter when she was small - one of our favorite places to be was on a beach somewhere. The lake is beautiful here in Tahoe as well and the water is so blue it's breathtaking and we have these wonderful Canadian geese that love to stop by and visit, have a snack, and take a nap.

My card today is for the Crafty Secrets Challenge using distressing techniques. I have distressed the edges with Tim Holtz distress tool and ink. The image is from Crafty Secrets "Seaside Memories", the CS and button twine are from Papertrey Ink, the DP is from the "Fly a Kite" collection by October Afternoon. I used Prismacolor pencils and OMS, pearls from Ellen Hutson which I colored with a Copic, I Kan Dee Chalk, and a shell from my beach wanderings.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Happy Halloween

This week's challenge in the Crafty Secrets Forum on Splitcoast Stampers (see links in sidebar)was to make your own designer paper. I love making my own paper and do it quite messily and often with paints, stamps, glitter, etc. This one however is a little more calm. The flourish is from Crafty Secrets "Mini Memories" set and I use it quite often - it works for any type of card and it looked perfect for Halloween with orange rhinestones scattered over it. I then overstamped with Crafty Secrets "Halloween Fun" small bat. I used the same set for the spider webs and the sentiment. These are wonderful sets - they are so versatile. If you are not familiar with them, please check them out. The small bat was punched from glittered paper with a punch from Martha Stewart, and the large bat is from an Inkadinkado set called "Creepy Crawly" - you can get that set from Jacksonbelle Embellishments or 7 Kids College Fund (both links are in the sidebar). I stamped it on the back of the glittered paper (from my LSS) and then cut it out, and folded with batwings up for a little dimension. I stumbled onto this ribbon treatment last week making anniversary cards and looking for something a little bit more moasculine - this is what I came up - now I am in danger of using it everywhere - I like it.

I'm going to be making another post soon - I want to show you my fall centerpiece for our dining room table.

Take Care and spend some time today doing something you love.

Halloween Ornament

Happy Thursday everyone!! Today's post is for the Craft Secrets Challenge on Splitcoast Stampers, hosted by Lori. Because I have been making Halloween items for a shop in town - this fit right in. The challenge was to use chipboard along with Crafty Secrets images or paper. I used my own chipboard - something that came in a package to support the paper I had ordered - I save all that stuff just for things like this. I cut a length of ready made bead fringe and glued it to the chipboard, then covered the back and front of theCB panel in black cardstock, cut out strips of halloween paper from my LSS, scalloped it with a corner rounder, glued them to the top and bottom of the ornament, then trimmed the scallops in silver stickles. The image is cut from "Halloween Time" Vintage Cuts from Crafty Secrets, glued to black CS trimmed with a deckle edge, then glued to orange CS, then to the black bacground, edged the image in silver stickles and let it dry, then added a black bat from a yard of trim I got at my LSS, punched a hole in the top and tied ribbon through. All done - it really doesn't take long at all. I usually do about a dozen at a time so I do each step to each ornament them move on to the next step. They look good on a Halloween tree, or hanging from a doorknob. Hope you like them, and please join our challenge on Splitcoast - it's great fun. Both links are in the sidebar.

Have a great day, and spend part of it doing what you love.

Crafy Secrets Challenge

This weeks Crafty Secrets Challenge was to make a card honoring friendships, and add some sparkle. I made this card "Missing You Girlfriend" for my best friend of almost 40 years. We see each other maybe once every 2-3 years now as we live so far apart and our lives are very busy. We stay in touch by telephone calls and cards to one another - this seemed perfect.

I placed a Crafty Secrets DP from their Pastel Pack onto a pink top folded card base, then ran a black panel through my Cuttlebug using the "Textile" embossing folder and adhered to the DP panel and edged it in Silver Stickles by Ranger. I edged the image from the Crafty Secrets Wacky and Wonderful Vintage Image Booklet in Silver Stickles, adhered it to a black mat, then a pink mat, then a dp mat, punched a hole on both sides, thread my ribbon through and tied a knot. It was very simple and quick - quick only because I pretty much had the idea going around in my head for a couple of days before I even began.

I hope you like it, let me know what you think. Please visit often - I love hearing from you.
