Home for the Holidays Pink Saturday

It’s been so long since I have been able to take part in Pink Saturday and I really do enjoy it. Christmas for me this year has been a bit unusual – it all seemed so overwhelming for a number of reasons I will not bore you with, but I decided to not put up a tree and to go very sparingly. In looking through a number of really beautiful blogs I’ve discovered that I am not the only one that does not get their tree up the day after Thanksgiving and has all their decorating done by December 1st and that am not able to get everything down and put away after Christmas until the end of January – what a revelation for me!!

Here are some things I did do…

Bleached some bottle brush trees in preparation for something – not sure what yet and they may not get done until next year

100_6274 (800x600) (640x480)

I love looking out onto my deck as it’s just off the family and dining room and see just a bit of Christmas especially after a light snow

100_6269 (800x600) (640x480)

Our Christmas tree this year is some branches I had previously sprayed silver and hang decorations on according to the holiday. I love these little ornaments, not sure if you can see, but they are polka dots on red and green bulbs – so cute! Since this photo, I have tucked mini lights into the container – it’s so beautiful at night.

100_6263 (800x783) (640x626)

This photo did not turn out well, but in real life it’s actually very pretty. My husband made me the candle holders a few years back and I love displaying them at Christmas

100_6267 (800x600) (640x480)

I know, I know – this is very plain and I have dressed it up a bit since the photo with more fairy lights and a bulb in the nest – it’s very ethereal looking. The tree I started making last year and finished it this year – a dear friend gave me the vintage trim you see on the bottom.

100_6266 (800x600) (640x480)

Nothing elaborate or over the top – very simple and done at my own pace as I felt like it – I really enjoy the simplicity of it it all.

And I have to show you our baby boy playing in the snow chasing snowballs

100_6260 (800x599) (640x479)

100_6261 (800x599) (640x479)

100_6262 (800x599) (640x479)

One thing in all of this - I realized that I really missed my beloved Christmas decorations and also realized that my process and some of my expectations were part of what felt so overwhelming. I’m in the process of cleaning out the closet in the guest room to make way for my pared down version of Christmas. I’m keeping only those items I truly love and that are very sentimental – all the rest – you know the ones that every year you say “Oh, I’m not putting that out this year – I don’t know where to put it, I really don’t want to take the time for that etc., etc. and then they get put back into the bottom of the box and packed away again – they are going to the thrift store or my daughter if she wants them. Only our tree (yes, a fake one) and our sweet lighted deer along with a sleigh will stay downstairs in our above ground basement. Everything else will be brought into that closet so that it’s not a big production to haul several containers upstairs and then take them downstairs usually in the middle of a snow storm or the aftermath of one blah blah blah – you get the picture I’m sure.

Take a moment and stop by How Sweet the Sound to visit with a lot of sweet people and see how they are decorating their homes for Christmas if you are still in need of some decorating inspiration.

Have a wonderful and Happy Holiday Season. Merry Christmas to you and yours,

Dru

May you find peace…..

Papirskatter - Sweet Cherubs

When I began this post, it was with the intention of sharing the last bit of Christmas items with you, but found that I could not… maybe next week.

The only thing I’m going to address in this post is to say that in a season that should be filled with as much joy and peace as possible ~ my heart goes out to all the parents, family, and friends of the dear ones lost this past week at Sandy Hook School in a senseless act of violence. My heart aches for all of you and I know that nothing said at this time can even begin to lessen your loss, but know there are millions of people around the world thinking of you and praying for you to be able to somehow cope with this grief and find some semblance of peace in your lives.

All Happiness at Christmastide

Love this sweet image and always the thoughtful sentiments and prose on the vintage post cards of the past. This is one of the newer additions to my Etsy shop. The polka dot paper is from Bety’s shop on Etsy – it’s a digital, so I can print it forever and I love love love it! The poinsettia is from a K & Co, set of die cuts. Buttons are a mix of Papertrey and my own stash, the tag is also from Papertrey – Tiny Tags 2 I think.

Have a fun and wonderful holiday season!

Peace Love & Joy

Christmas is just around the corner and I’ve been busy creating for Lake Tahoe Holidays shop here in town and also for my Etsy shop.  I made these for Keri’s shop.  Some of the images are from my own stash of vintage images and some are from Bety’s shop on Etsy. She makes beautifully collaged digital images and I love using them in my cards, tags, etc.

Wow! Has it Really Been That Long?

I cannot believe it’s been over a month since I last posted. And then I wonder why no one comes to see me or leaves a comment!! Well for those few of you who do come visit me, I have a few pieces I made for Thanksgiving/Fall.

This is an image new to me this year and has become one of my most favorites – love the sweet little girl, the beautiful turkey and the gorgeous autumn colors…

Witch’s Brew…

Another wall hanging for Halloween ~ this one made in a line I was just recently introduced to by my daughter – AUTHENTIQUE. They make some of the most beautiful paper out there. I just received an order of their “Enchanted” line for Halloween and I am definitely enchanted. Fortunately AUTHENTIQUE is hosting their September Color Challenge of black, orange and almond ~ so my new paper fit right in. You still have time to play if you’d like – it ends Wednesday 10/3 at 12 midnight.

100_6082 (546x640)

I’ve used 2 of their papers “Charmed” and “Glowing” along with the “Witch’s Brew” sticker from the “Enchanted Details” sticker sheet, tissue garland from Caramelo’s, chipboard from Glitter Dust Designs along with various supplies from my stash.

Take care,

Dru

Using some of the beautiful papers I purchased last year Halloween in Wonderland by Graphic 45. There’s still time to take part in the City Crafter Challenge Blog challenge “An Early Boo”. The prize if your creation is chosen is a $15.00 gift certificate from Freckled Fawn where you will find an amazing array of Washi and other decorative tapes.

My humble creation…

By Pumpkins Fat and Witches Lean…

and so begins the poem on my latest creation for Halloween created all from the new line from Graphic 45 “Happy Haunting” ~ I actually made this about 2 weeks ago and am just getting around to posting it and I’m happy to say it has already sold in my Etsy shop. This is such a beautiful line with so many possibilities and potential. I have so many things running around in my head I just hope I get to actually put them to paper. I also used some new spider web dies from Papertrey Ink – last month’s release – I can’t tell you how much I love these!! The spider is a punch from Martha Stewart – love that also! Tissue Garland from Caramelo’s. I’m hooking up to City Crafter and their “An Early Boo Challenge”. There’s still time to play…

Spooky goings on…..

City Crafter Challenge Blog is hosting a challenge this week to use polka dots in your project – love those polka dots and this site for the unique challenges. I haven’t been able to play lately, but was so happy to see my new Halloween project fit into their challenge.

Another decorative item ~ this time with a vintage image of a witch and her cauldron ~ love these old vintage black and white images. I recently came across a great shop on Etsy called Glitter Dust Designs. Tara is the designer and makes some really great chipboard dies ~ the prices are good, the cost of shipping is very reasonable, the selection amazing and the attention to detail is right up my alley ~ just look at that tree!

100_6043 (513x640)

I’ve painted, glittered, layered on the journaling card from Prima found at Scrapbook.com, the chipboard tree mentioned above, a chipboard owl I drew out also on chipboard ~ cut out and glittered, rhinestone strip, decorative brads, crochet trim, tissue garland found also on Etsy at Caramelo’s, some black tulle I gathered then made into fringe, and lastly tied with my own crinkled black seam binding. This one is a favorite for me ~ I love the color combination of black and crème with just a touch of the dusty orange. Had I known I was going to take part in this challenge I would have photographed the back as well – it’s all crème polka dots on a distressed black background.

Also have a couple more single pennant banners ~ both with polka dots to share…

100_6011 (640x480)

Take care friends and have a lovely and creative week…

I hope to make a few more of these for my shop, but time seems to slip away from me.

Hooking up to Alota Rubber Stamps Halloween Challenge (I don’t have any of their stamps but apparently that’s o.k. (they have some REALLY cute little stamps. Trying to branch out a little, but not too many Halloween challenges out there yet. Also to Make It Monday Anything Goes Challenge.

Halloween Greetings for 2012

It’s nearly that time again and I’m loving putting together some items for Lake Tahoe Holidays and my Etsy Shop. I’ve been on a vacation of sorts (not really if you know what I mean – but a little time away from Etsy). Now, I’m trying to get caught up with all my orders, and getting new stuff into my shops. My banners are not new, I do them every year with hopefully a little different twist than last year (sometimes not)!

100_5989 (640x480)

100_5987 (640x480)

and last but not least…

100_5990 (640x480)

Only the banner on top is now in my Etsy shop – the others will probably be in by tomorrow. I’ll post my newest items here in a couple of day. I had a great time making them and hope you like them as well.

Take care,

Dru
